When it comes to the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Awards journey, taking the step to advance your center from Bronze to Silver offers remarkable benefits. Centers that achieve the Silver Quality Award demonstrate higher staff retention rates and patient satisfaction scores and lower rates of emergency department visits, hospital readmissions, pressure ulcers, and off-label antipsychotic use. Not only are Florida centers eligible for Quality Incentive Points starting at the Silver level, but leaders are also equipped to analyze systems for staff development, resident care, data management and analysis, and more. In this training, Dr. Kelly Smith with Q3 Healthcare Consulting will break down the process categories in the Silver Quality Award application, providing attendees with best practices for writing an effective Quality Awards Application.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Understand the AHCA/NCAL Silver Application Criteria
- Demonstrate proficiency in the “ADLI” model used by examiners for process evaluation
- Utilize best practices and approaches to respond to each process category effectively
- Gain an understanding of the "iTLEC" model used by examiners for results evaluation

Dr. Kelly Smith is the CEO of Q3 Healthcare Consulting, Dr. Smith brings a systems-based approach to quality improvement—connecting strategy, workforce engagement, operations, and customer satisfaction. Her expertise lies in evidence-based frameworks, such as the Baldrige Framework for Performance Excellence and Lean Six Sigma, which she applies to improve long-term care outcomes. Dr. Smith was previously the Director of Process Improvement at a large senior care provider, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and post-acute care. Dr. Smith holds a doctorate in Aging Studies, is an AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program Gold Examiner and Trainer, a Certified Professional in Healthcare, and a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
