FHCA's Introduction to Risk Management program gives participants the tools to effectively implement or enhance their center’s risk management program.
FHCA's Introduction to Risk Management program gives participants the tools to effectively implement or enhance their center’s risk management program. Leaders in risk management, including representatives from the Agency for Health Care Administration, address topics that focus on advance directives, application of the State of Florida risk requirements and federal risk-related regulations. The program is designed to expand participants' knowledge of high-risk areas such as elopement, significant incidents and accidents and more. In addition, participants will learn the reporting requirements under state and federal guidelines as they relate to risk and standards of investigation and documentation.
Learner Objectives

She is active in the American Health Lawyers Association. She speaks often on health care and legal issues and has written numerous articles.

Michelle was also a Registered Nurse Specialist surveyor and a Quality-of-Care Monitor for nursing homes and assisted living facilities from Daytona Beach to Miami. Michelle received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University in Ohio in 1988 and has her Certification in Gerontology from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has enjoyed being a Registered Nurse for 35 years with over 30 years of experience in long term care."

She came to FHCA in May of 2017 and is the liaison to Senior Clinicians Council, Risk Compliance Council, Infection Prevention Council, and the Florida Center for Assisted Living (FCAL) Committee.

She has worked in hospitals, long term care centers and physician provider organizations in various capacities. Hazel completed her BA in Health Administration through the University of Dundee distance learning program in 2012. Hazel has developed, implemented and monitored clinical risk management programs for three long term care companies in Florida, moving into Compliance in 2013. In 2014, Hazel achieved certification in Health Care Compliance and Health Care Privacy Compliance. She has developed, implemented, and now oversees comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Programs for different operating companies which meet OIG guidelines.

Prior to her current role, she was a surveyor with Agency for several years. This virtual program discusses the October 1, 2023 MDS regulatory changes to wound care and how they should be implemented, coded in relation to Section M coding and ICD-10 codes.
A significant set of changes to the MDS 3.0 took effect October 1, 2023, including regulatory changes to wound care, which can impact a facility’s Quality Measures. This program discusses the changes and how they impact Section M coding, along with use of the appropriate ICD-10 codes and how new changes should be implemented, coded, and captured. Changes specific to wound care, including end-of-life wounds, coding for new admissions and assessments is covered, along with a process for compliance and best practice principles for enhanced quality care. The presenter also reviews current literature on end-of-life wounds and discusses how end-of-life wounds should be documented and noted.

FHCA's Preceptor Refresher Course helps participants meet the two-hour course Preceptor requirement for licensure renewal. The program covers the required areas of training, including AIT program requirements, and offer an informative review of nursing center domains of practice.
Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrator regulations pursuant to 64B10-16.0025 (2), FAC, require all Florida Nursing Home Administrators with Preceptor Certification to take a two (2) hour Preceptor Refresher Course upon license renewal every two years.

Roger is a respected industry leader, educator, and researcher. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) since 2009, and in 2020 was elected to be the ACHE Regent for the Central and Tidewater regions of Virginia.
