Skilled nursing facility (SNF) compliance with CMS regulations regarding drug diversion involves preventing, identifying, and responding to the misuse of controlled substances, which requires robust protocols, staff education, and a culture of safety. This free, members-only webinar will provide SNF staff with critical knowledge about controlled substance management and safety protocols. Attendees will gain an understanding of the CMS requirements regarding the availability and use of Naloxone (Narcan) in the SNF setting, including recognizing opioid overdose symptoms and discerning when administration is appropriate, and the regulatory considerations specific to Methadone use within SNFs. The presenters will offer effective strategies to help attendees learn how to prevent controlled substance diversion, including both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management and the development of strong policies and procedures. Key steps involved in investigating suspected drug diversion and the appropriate reporting requirements will also be addressed.
