This on-demand course provides an update on the Florida laws and rules that govern nursing practice and meets the Florida Board of Nursing requirement of completion of a two-hour course prior to licensure renewal (Rule 64B9-5.002, F.A.C.).
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of Florida's Nurse Practice Act, including practical pointers for navigating the statutes and rules.
- Discuss the changes to the laws and rules governing nurse practice over the past two years.
- Learn practical application of the laws and rules, including ethical practice, scope of practice, and enforcement actions.

Attendees will earn a total of 2.0 computer-based CEUs. A certificate of attendance will be available upon completion of the program and passing (70%) of 10 question post quiz.

Kim Broom

Kim Broom is FHCA Director of Clinical & Risk Management. She has been a Registered Nurse for 38 years, with 27 years in long term care as a Director of Nursing, Regional Nurse Consultant and other roles. She is a risk manager and for six years was the administrator of a 68-bed assisted living facility with an Extended Congregate Care license. She has recently received her Certification in Infection Control (CIC) as well. She came to FHCA in May of 2017 and is the liaison to the Senior Clinicians Council, Risk Compliance Council, Infection Prevention Council, and the Florida Center for Assisted Living (FCAL) Committee.

Susan Anderson currently serves as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for Florida Health Care Association. In this position, she concentrates on supporting the legislative, regulatory, and policy activities on behalf of association members for nursing centers and assisted living facilities. Ms. Anderson has experience in seniors housing and in developing public policy positions and advising on regulatory compliance. Ms. Anderson is an active member of the Florida Bar. |
