Paid Feeding Assistant Training Program

FHCA’s Paid Feeding Assistant Training Program is approved by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and prepares centers to train new and existing staff to safely assist with feeding residents. This specialized staff training program supports nursing centers with compliance with Federal Code of Regulations (CFR) 483.60. The curriculum covers infection control, communication, emergency procedures, techniques and appropriate responses to resident behavior and provides comprehensive information on how to meet all regulatory requirements.

FHCA's Paid Feeding Assistant Training Program is a 12-hour course (8 hours classroom training/4 hours clinical training). It includes a Course Outline and Program Overview, with chapters focused on training specific to the areas of:

  1. Regulatory Review
  2. Residents Rights
  3. Infection Control
  4. Communication and Interpersonal Relationship Skills
  5. Safety and Emergency Procedures Including Heimlich Maneuver
  6. Recognizing Changes in Residents that are Inconsistent with their Normal Behavior and the
  7. Importance of Reporting those Changes to the Supervisory Nurse
  8. Appropriate Responses to Resident Behavior
  9. Assistance with Feeding and Hydration
  10. Feeding Techniques
