FHCA's Preceptor Provider Training prepares nursing home administrators to serve as Preceptors for students in the Administrator-In-Training (AIT) Program or College-Based Internship required for individuals who plan to become licensed nursing home administrators. This six-hour, self-directed video course has been approved by the Board of Nursing Home Administrators for Florida licensed administrators desiring to be certified. Presenters will lead attendees through the program to help qualify them to become Preceptors. Six (6) contact hours can be earned for taking the course. Any nursing home administrator who acts as a preceptor will be granted 10 hours of continuing education credit for that biennium.

After watching the video course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss concepts of mentorship and teaching techniques to work better with your AIT
- Understand the Preceptor and AIT program requirements, expectations and needs
- Review the regulatory requirements for the Program
- Hear from current Preceptors on what makes a Preceptor successful
Attendees will earn a total of 6 computer-based CEUs. A certificate of attendance will be available after completion of the program.

Deborah Franklin

Deborah Franklin is the Senior Director of Quality Affairs for the Florida Health Care Association. Deborah has a Masters of Health Administration and is a nursing home administrator with over thirty years in long term care sector. Deborah is responsible for leading the Association's internal quality department while pioneering initiatives on quality improvement in long term care. She works in conjunction with the association's Board of Directors, Quality Cabinet and associated committees to develop, plan and implement long term care quality and educational programs to support members with their pursuit of providing high-quality, person-centered care. Additionally, Deborah is the key liaison with the executive and legislative branches, state and federal health care agencies on long term care survey and regulatory issues. |
Cary Smith

Cary Smith is a graduate of Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN with a degree in long term care administration. Mrs. Smith has been a licensed nursing home administrator since 1989 in various States including Florida. Her breadth of experience in long term care includes marketing, customer service, training, program development and facility operations. She brings great passion and commitment to the aging population and the long term care profession.
Karen Goldsmith

Karen Goldsmith currently serves as Florida Health Care Association's Regulatory Counsel and previously served as the association's Legal Counsel since 1980. She represents a number of providers of nursing home and assisted living facilities. She is active on the American Health Care Association Legal Committee and served as its chairman for two terms. She is active in the American Health Lawyers Association. She speaks often on health care and legal issues and has written numerous articles.

Vernon Zeger
Vern Zeger has been in long term care as a leader since 1997. He has led teams to receive Baldrige Quality awards, five star ratings and small business of the year for the community. Vern is Chair of the Survey and Regulatory Committee and has been actively engaged in FHCA as a board member, district president and other committees as needed. Vern has impacted many nursing home administrators as a mentor and preceptor.
