A significant set of changes to the MDS 3.0 took effect October 1, 2023, including regulatory changes to wound care, which can impact a facility’s Quality Measures. This program discusses the changes and how they impact Section M coding, along with use of the appropriate ICD-10 codes and how new changes should be implemented, coded, and captured. Changes specific to wound care, including end-of-life wounds, coding for new admissions and assessments is covered, along with a process for compliance and best practice principles for enhanced quality care. The presenter also reviews current literature on end-of-life wounds and discusses how end-of-life wounds should be documented and noted.
